The AutoDrive team attend BIFA

Hours before setting off on the Rat & Dragon Epic Journey, the AutoDrive team rub shoulders with the greats of the UK independent film industry at this year’s BIFA.

The British Independent Film Awards saw James McAvoy win best actor for his performance in Filth, Sean Ellis win Best Director for Metro Manila and Z1 win best British short.

“BIFA is always a great opportunity to catch up despite everyone’s busy schedules and celebrate indie film in the UK,” explains producer Nicola. “We leave on the Epic Journey tomorrow morning so timing couldn’t have been better.”

Blue Ninja lost in Dallas

Rat & Dragon, currently stationed in Dallas, Texas, are in production of ‘Blue Ninja’, a destination film like you’ve never seen before.

As if following a little blue ninja with… ninja skills around the citie’s huge skyscrapers or the cowboy-packed stockyards of neighbouring Fort Worth wasn’t hard enough, the Rat & Dragon production team have taken on the task to tell the lost Ninja’s story whilst featuring all Dallas‘ key sights and activities.

“She’s cute but deadly” explains director Saxon Yuen to the local support team. “All she needs is to find someone to fight. All we need is to come out alive. Good luck!”

AutoDrive screens at San Diego Film Festival

Rory O’Donnell’s surreal tech-thriller AutoDrive has screened to wide acclaim at this year’s San Diego Film Festival.

An audience favourite in the “especially well received” Twilight Zone program, AutoDrive’s  third festival selection in the United States “exposes the occasional dark side of technological progress, and serves as an allegory for labor exploitation”, writes Terence Butcher of PopMatters.

“We’re very pleased with this year’s reception at San Diego”, director Rory O’Donnell shares with producer Nicola, “especially as it’s the second time one of your films is here. I’m going to have to make another one quick.”

RaD shoots London Postcards for STA Travel

Hardly a month old, and Rat & Dragon has been commissioned to shoot one of the world’s most vibrant cities – with a twist.

“London has both a huge amount to offer and a huge amount of coverage already” explains director Saxon Yuen. “You have to get creative to show London in a fresh light whilst highlighting its tried and tested USPs.”

London Postcards is set to be the flagship film for a global series of pieces inspired by the world’s greatest cities, curated by STA Travel’s content team over the following years.

A Last Little Piece of Paradise

Indie film producer Nicola Petrides and marketing guru Saxon Yuen (previously of global adventure travel specialist STA Travel) have combined years of experience and unique skill sets.

True to its strong markering and film making roots, Rat & Dragon promises to deliver technically sound and visually stunning ‘content to knock your socks off’.

“2013 is an extremely exciting year for savvy media start ups” explains founder and director Saxon. “By delivering authenticity, flexibility and reliable production value we’re unique in our field. The world is an incredible studio to be working in.”

Little Whale Cay Promo shot in the Bahamas

The private island Little Whale Cay was recently host to the Boto House film team who spent a fantastic week capturing the Island’s luxurious and heartwarming delights.

Director Dave Padadac teamed up with producer Nicola Petrides, DoP Ronaldas Buozis and MU&Hair Artist Hayley Gittins to deliver the action and relaxation packed promo with the help of Miami and NY based Cyndi and Brad.

“The biggest thank you to David, Nicola, Ronaldas and Hayley,” says owner Erica Austin, “for being such a professional and hard working team.” Get your share of paradise here!

Downsizer shoots up Canary Wharf

Machine guns, gas masks and bloodthirsty office workers raised more than just a couple of eyebrows during this June’s shoot of action packed short Downsizer, directed by Joe Pavlo.

With security and counter-terrorism teams in Canary Wharf and the City briefed, weekend rat racers had the pleasure to witness DoP Ronaldas, producer Nicola, leads Ed Coleman, Claire Garvey, Kate Sandison, Dan March and their fantastic team spin their story of the consequences of resisting redundancy.

“Everyone has done a fantastic job, I couldn’t be happier”, director Joe beams along with the assembled cast & crew. “Now begins the CG heavy post period, but it’s going to look spectacular!”

Nicola is a self starter and fully engaged at what she does. She keeps the overview and is both able to take the lead and integrate herself into a team. She’s very approachable and therefore very pleasant to work with.

Don’t Get Lost Here at Night

Edgware Road houses the spookily post-apocalyptic setting for recently shot short ‘The Eternal’ starring Jo Dyson and Darren Kent.

“It’s the third time I’m shooting here and every time it gives me the creeps”, producer Nicola comments on location manager Mike’s stories of mysterious noises and sights on his weekly late night rounds of the abandoned shopping mall.

Teaming up with the SAE sound collective Rob, Kjartan and Declan, DoP Antony and director Nicola Q brought to life the twisted and heavily aural fable, luckily without running into a night shoot.
